The Hill Varnish Cleaner & Reviver is a Preparation Cleaning Liquid that gently cleans and revivers the instrument varnish. It is especially well-suited for cleaning and restoring traditional string instrument varnishes.
Apply with a clean cloth or cotton wool and polish off until dry. Use the polish sparingly but clean and polish the instrument at least once a month.
The W.E. Hill & Sons Varnish cleaner is especially well-suited for cleaning and restoring traditional varnishes. This cleaner in a 25 ml bottle is very effective in getting rid of the stubborn rosin between the bridge and fingerboard. To use shake the bottle and apply a small quantity with a piece of absorbent material. Rub lightly with a soft cloth until quite dry.
To clean your instrument, please do not ever use any cleaner general used for cleaning furniture or polishing shoes. This would do more harm than good! Most general cleaners contain alcohol which will take the French Polish finish right off! French polish is a very old art by hand. It isn't really a polish as we think of polish as in wax and polish, it's a finish in the sense that it's applied with a polishing and buffing action. The main ingredients in French polish are shellac flakes dissolved in denatured alcohol. That's why using a cleaner with alcohol in it will take the French Polish finish right off!
