The Heritage Series Guadagnini 'Ex-Ara' Viola is a modern interpretation of an instrument by G. B. Guadagnini made in Turin, 1785.
They are available sizes: 15, 15.5 & 15.75
G.B. Guadagnini is considered one of Italy's finest makers, producing a large number of violins, but relatively few violas.
This viola, made in Turin, towards the end of his industrious career is typical of the smaller shape and size he commonly used. This viola is a superb model to reproduce in smaller sizes, offering a mezzo quality without the resulting loss in projection.
The viola is named after the Italian Ugo Ara (1876-1936), violist to the Flonzaley Quartet. The instrument is presently owned by the Chi-Mei Foundation of Taiwan.
